The game 1's have concluded to kick off the second round of the 2015 NHL playoffs.
The Washington Capitals were ready for the best team in the regular season, beating them in yet another final score of 2-1. With precious seconds ticking away, Joel Ward wasn't satisfied with going to overtime. He netted the game-winner with 2 seconds left on the clock. Final Score: Capitals- 2, Rangers- 1; Capitals lead series 1-0.
To Montreal we go, to start off the the other Eastern Conference series. The Tampa Bay Lightning VS. the Montreal Canadiens. The clash was knotted at zeros, until Tyler Johnson broke the tie in the early stages of the 3rd PerIod for Tampa BAy. Ben Bishop had been playing phenomenal the entire game, and possibly made the save of the playoffs, but let in a soft one from Max Pacioretty to tie the game at 1. 60 minutes wasn't enough and neither was 80. Into double overtime they went, but I assure you it didn't last long. 21 year-old, Nikita Kucherov, (Above), became the youngest player in franchise history to score a playoff overtime goal, surpassing Vincent Lecavalier. Final score: Lightning- 2, Canadiens- 1 (2OT); Lightning lead series 1-0.
TO the West, we have a very powerful Anaheim Ducks team, against a young guns Calgary Flames. The Ducks delivered a straight out beating to Calgary, scoring 6 consecutive goals. I won't go into further details for you Flames fans. Final Score: Ducks- 6, Flames- 1; Ducks lead series 1-0.
A game 1 that looked strangely familiar to Blackhawks' fans and players took place at the United Center in Chicago. The game started almost identically as game 1 against Nashville. However, the first period was in Chicago's favor. Brandon Saad went top shelf on Minnesota goalie, Devan Dubnyk to start off the scoring for the Blackhawks. Tallies from Marcus Kruger and Patrick Kane would leave the score at the end of the first period, 3-0. The Wild responded with 3 goals of their own in the second, tying the game at 3-3. Blackhawks rookie, Teuvo Teravainen, put one past Dubnyk with 58 seconds remaining in the second period to give Chicago a 4-3 lead, which was the score that would stand until the final buzzer. Final score: Blackhawks- 4, Wild- 3; Blackhawks lead series, 1-0.
